Many people who love taking photographs dream of being a published photographer. With these five tips you will be able to move closer to your dreams and start your career as a photographer.
1. Pick Your Focus
It's important to decide what type of photographer you want to be. The requirements to become a photojournalists will vary from the requirements to become a forensic photographer. Find your niche and become an expert. By focusing you will be able to build your credibility as a photographer in that niche.
2. Get the training
Depending on what field of photography you want to specialize in, you might need to get a college degree. A photojournalist or a scientific photographer will need the training not only in photography, but also in journalism or science. Other specialties will benefit from college training but do not require it. If you don't want to spend the next four years in class, try to find an internship. Approach people who are making a living doing what you want to do and see if they offer an assistantship. You'll be able to learn the ropes and improve your photography skills while you help your employer.
3. Join organizations
Taking great photographs is only one half of the equation. You'll also need to make connections. There are different types of organizations that you should consider joining. First, think locally. Many of the businesses and organizations in your area will need to hire a photographer at some time. Join the Chamber of Commerce and other business networking groups. This will give people a chance to know you and your work and you will be more successful when you approach them than you would be cold calling them.
The second type of organization you should join should be related to your specialty. This allows you to become an expert in whatever you are shooting. If possible, join organizations that are comprised of photographers in your niche. You'll also want to join a more broad organization that would include different business people in the niche you want to pursue.
The third type of organization you'll want to join is a general photographer organization. This will keep you up-to-date in the photography world. You'll get great tips on becoming a better photographer and you'll have the opportunity to pick up more skills at conferences and workshops.
4. Start Local, Start Small
Although you may desire to land a contract that sends you to Hawai'i to shoot travel photos, you'll have more success if you start locally. If you want to be a travel photographer, see if the local tourism bureaus need photographs for their brochures. As you add to your portfolio, you'll be able to get bigger and better jobs.
If selling your photos online, start with submitting your photos to the microstock sites. After you have success with those you will then be able to approach the large professional stock sites to offer them your services as an experienced stock photographer.
5. Invest in your career
You don't need the most expensive camera on the market to be a successful photographer, but do buy the best equipment that you can afford. If you want to become a photographer full time, you will need to invest in your career.

Apparently “it can manage to do so by generating a compact signature or fingerprint of 76 bytes of size per frame of the original content and comparing them with the video content on the internet”, says Akihabara News.
“That means, for instance, any screener or camcorder movie copies will be detected by either the producers or service providers fast and easy”, says the story.
According to NEC, “the technology succeeded %96 of detection rate with low false alarm rate of 5ppm (5 in one million) during the tests conducted by international standardization organization (ISO)”, says the story, adding:
“And the technology is already accepted as part of the MPEG-7 standard.”

Many, if not most, screeners, working copies and other closely held materials end up online only after they’ve been posted there by Hollywood insiders.

Tokyo, May 7, 2010 – NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) announced today the development of a video content identification technology that detects illegal copies of video content uploaded to the Internet in a matter of seconds.
This technology generates a fingerprint (video signature) to identify video content then compares video signatures to the signatures of original content in order to detect copies or altered versions. Therefore, altered video content, such as caption overlays, camera captured copies and analog copies, can be quickly and accurately detected.
This new technology enables content holders and service providers to automatically detect illegal copies and prevent illegal upload of video content on the Internet by registering original video content. These developments are expected to significantly reduce the time and cost of manual content inspections as well as improve the scale and accuracy of content assessment.
This technology has been approved by the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29 (*1) as the MPEG-7 Video signature tool (*2), international standard for video identification.
These video content identification technologies feature the following:
Accurate detection of copied or altered video content
Video signatures are extracted for each frame based on differences in the luminance between sets of sub-regions on a frame that are defined by a variety of locations, sizes, and shapes. Video signatures represent a unique fingerprint that can be individually detected frame by frame. This technology is capable of accurately detecting video content with that was created with such editing operations as analog capturing (*3), re-encoding (*4) and caption overlay (*5), which was conventionally very difficult to detect.
A high detection rate and low false positive rate for all video contents
By estimating confidence of signatures generated from each frame and using the confidence for sequence identification, the technology achieves a high detection rate (*6) with a very low false positive rate (*7). These technologies achieved an average detection rate of 96% at a very low false alarm rate of 5ppm (5 in one million) through tests conducted by the international standardization organization.
Detection of short video scenes
Due to the high identification capability of signatures, the technology is capable of accurately detecting video scenes as short as 2 seconds (60 frames), which was formerly impossible when using conventional methods.
Compatibility with home PCs
By designing a compact signature size of 76 bytes per frame, the storage memory required for the matching process is minimized. As a result, a home-class PC (*8) can match approximately 1,000 hours of video in 1 second.
Due to the proliferation of video distribution services on the Internet, the detection and deletion of illegally distributed and copied video content (copyright infringement) has become a crucial issue for content holders and service providers. This problem has conventionally been addressed by manual inspection which is incapable of accurately tracking the constantly growing volume of Internet content. In order to solve this issue, various automatic detection tools have been proposed, such as digital watermarks where content is embedded with special code, and the use of image retrieval technology. However, it was prohibitively difficult to accurately inspect large databases, short content or video produced through various editing operations. These new technologies resolve each of the above issues.
Looking forward, NEC will further develop this technology in order to provide a variety of applications that establish a content distribution structure where all video rights are respected.
This technology was approved as the Final Draft of International Standard of ISO/IEC 15938-3/Amd.4 at the 92nd ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 29 WG11 (MPEG) meeting held in Dresden, Germany from April 19 to 23, 2010. The standard is expected to be published in September 2010, following approval from ITTF member countries.
This newly developed technology will be demonstrated at the 13th Embedded System Expo at Tokyo Bigsite between May 12 and 14.

NEC Japan has announced its newest notebook , called NEC LaVie LM550/BS.
The notebook is based on Intel powered, which includes a 1.2GHz Intel Core i3-330UM processor, an integrated graphics, 2GB of RAM, and 320 GB hard drive. NEC LaVie LM550 is packs a 13.3-inch display with resolution of 1366×768 pixels, TV tuner, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, WiMAX, Gigabit Ethernet, and card reader.
NEC LaVie LM550/BS is running on Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) and provides up to 10.5 hours of runtime. The notebook will be starting sale from mid-June 2010 at expected price of $1,300 and comes in red, black and white colors.

NEC introduces the its mobile phone Docomo PRO series, that looks like a notebook. The NEC N-08B is equipped with 4.6-inch display (854×480 pixel) and a QWERTY keyboard which looks great for thumb-typing. And Its also include trackpoint present on its spacebar.

I was photographing in the last couple of days – please tell me if you like them:
Top 13 American Idol contestant Adam Lambert is allegedly gay. So? Didn't most of us American Idol viewers realize that? But when Adam Lambert began stirring up a stink on the internet in the first week of March 2009, with certain photos of him kissing some fellas, some people began going into shock. My opinion on the subject is this: Whatever blows your skirt up, Adam. However, will this internet incident affect Lambert's chances of actually winning American Idol?
The photos of Adam Lambert and another unidentified guy kissing (um, tonguing?) and another colorful smooching photo can be viewed here. Evidently, the photos were taken at the “Burning Man” arts festival in California. This day and time being gay is no big deal, compared to years gone by when men or women felt they had to hide their sexual preference. But some folks living in the bible belt, Georgia in particular, will likely be turned off by this sort of public behavior, let alone splattered all over the internet.
Don't get me wrong, Adam Lambert is a powerful singer and he is destined for fame, but I do have a bone to pick with Lambert due to his last performance on American Idol. I, personally, felt that Lambert's slight-of-hand genital stroking during his latest performance of “I Can't Get No Satisfaction” was totally inappropriate. Hey! We got kids, here, Adam! Isn't this supposed to be a family show?
This writer asked American Idol watchers in different age groups in Georgia about their opinion of Adam Lambert's tongue touching internet incidents. “I don't really care what he does, I'm voting for Lil Rounds. But I don't understand why he would want to jeopardize his promise of winning American Idol by leaking photos of his tongue action,” commented resident of Forsyth, Georgia, Patsy Hollifield. Morrow, Georgia, resident Brittany Crews, replied “I don't think it's a big deal, but that sort of thing should be kept private.” Thomaston, Georgia, resident Sandra Sosebee, described her feelings in one word, “Yuck.”
Could it be that the smooching photos of American Idol hopeful Adam Lambert could have been taken without his knowledge? Sure. Could it be that the photos of Adam Lambert were taken with his knowledge? Sure. Either way, American Idol's Adam Lambert has certainly got folks talking and you can't buy that kind of publicity. Only time will tell if American Idol contestant Adam Lambert will be positively or negatively influenced by the internet guy-to-guy face action.

The most popular price range for laptops is currently the $700-800 range. This Toshiba Satellite sits firmly within that range and is one of their top selling models. I have gotten my hands on one and I'm going to let you know what you can expect, as well as who can get the most out of owning one of these notebooks. First I'm going to start with the basics.

At first glance this Toshiba is a little larger than I would like weighing in at 6lbs and being over an inch and a half thick when closed up. Once you open it up you notice that the screen really is fairly nice for this price range. Toshiba does a great job on their screens and this one has a nice gloss and a resolution you could compared to something like a 720p television. Though this isn't what you would refer to as an entertainment PC it does have a spacious hard drive. The graphics card isn't great and uses the system's ram as its memory which strains the system's limited resources. The 1.83 Intel is also a little underpowered. It is a decent mobile device because it gets good mileage out of the battery; it is just a little bulky.
Toshiba has a good deal of trial ware preinstalled on this notebook so the first thing I would recommend doing if you have made the purchase would be to remove most of it. A great deal of it starts up and runs in the background when you boot up the PC. You can see them down on the system bar, there are so many it doesn't even display them all. It isn't quite as bad with Toshiba as it is with some manufacturers (cough cough … Sony).

The connectivity is standard although mine doesn't have Bluetooth bundled. This is something that I would've expected even at this price point. It isn't a big deal because you can always buy a separate dongle but it is a little disappointing. I do like seeing that there is 4 not just 3 USB ports. Otherwise everything is standard and what I like to see. Currently priced at $769 it is a little high for my tastes. I would like to see it closer to $699 before I would pull the trigger. In the end it will please about any typical notebook user.

His work also spanned reportage and advertising, including two award-winning campaigns for Benson & Hedges and Smirnoff in the 1970s. He shot three David Bowie album covers, including Aladdin Sane.

The name Acer may not be familiar with many people but to me it usually means high quality at a great price. The Acer Aspire 5720-4649 is no exception. Because they don't spend the money on advertising the consumer reaps the benefit. I'm going to discuss what you can find on the Acer Aspire 5720-4649 notebook, how it performs, and what type of notebook user this device caters to.

Acer doesn't have a big time name like Sony, Apple, or HP but they have been around a while and if you know much about the technology industry they're not a new name to you. They've been around as long as I have been computing; in fact I remember when they were the first manufacturer to produce a black colored PC. Before Acer came along all PC's were that ugly gray color for the most part. So if you're concerned about the brand name, don't any more concerned than you would be with an HP, Sony or whatever Acer is established and make a quality product, this laptop is no exception.
The first thing you notice about this little budget priced notebook is how well built it is. It is extremely robust and the Acer Aspire 5720-4649 feels like a brick. Unfortunately it's about as heavy as a brick. But if you're not going to be treating your notebook with much respect then this is a good option for you, its robust. It also runs quite cool, meaning that you can leave it on and in sleep mode in its bag without concerning yourself with it burning up.
This Acer Aspire 5720-4649 notebook's display cranks away at a resolution of 1280 x 800. The CrystalBright display offers fairly good clarity with limited glaring. It is a little difficult to see in the direct sunlight. It gets a little washed out if you're using the laptop outside. Other than that it looks performs pretty standard.
The notebook is a little underpowered but if you limit your multitasking you won't be bothered too much by it. The integrated graphics card means you want be playing to many graphic intensive games however it performs fine for everyday tasks. You'll be able to watch plenty of movies, and play around with home videos to an extent. The hard drive at 160 GB is adequate for this notebook's price range. I did find however that 1 GB of ram is not enough. You'll need to expect to perform an upgrade if you want to do much at all. Windows Vista is a fairly intensive platform to be running and 1 GB of ram just isn't cutting it. Especially considering the integrated graphics card shares the on board ram as its Video ram. Alright enough about the hardware lets talk about the connectivity.

4 2.0 USB inputs (you can use these for things like your iPod, printers, your digital camera as well as other things)
1 FireWire (This is for high speed downloading of digital video files from your digital camcorder)

5 in 1 Media reader (This is for the little solid state memory cards that your Digital camera uses)

For the price range im surprised at the connectivity options. It has 4 USB ports which is 1 more than what I would consider standard. They're also well placed, sides and back. The firewire port is nice but I don't know if its really needed. With the integrated graphics card and single GB of ram I wouldn't expect to do much intensive video editing but it might be fun to play around with, just don't expect to do too much without some considerable lag. It is missing Bluetooth which I would like to see in any notebook but you can easily add this with a USB adaptor.
All together the Acer Aspire 5720-4649 available at under $600 is perfect for the all business notebook user or the notebook user on a budget. It would also be great for students that aren't interested in gaming, but mostly school work as well as the occasional movie, DVD burning session or CD burning session.

If you like taking photos you may be wondering what type of training do you need to become a photographer. Although everyone can benefit from taking photography courses, how much training you need depends on what type of photographer you wish to become.
If you desire to be a photojournalist or specialize in a science such as medicine, you will need to get a college degree. In addition to gaining the level of knowledge you need for these careers, getting a college education will also help you develop your portfolio and make the contacts necessary to secure work later on. When choosing a college, find one with which specializes in your specific area within the photography major. Going to a university whose photography department focuses on photos as art will not give you the help you need to be a forensic photographer.
An internship or work experience is some of the best training you can get. In some specialties, such as advertising and fashion, it is as hard to get an assistant position as it is to get a job as a photographer. Don't let that discourage you, though. Do whatever it takes to get a foot in the door, even if you must work another job to be able to afford an unpaid internship. Fortunately, other industries aren't as difficult to get into. Make local contacts in your area. Join organizations that relate to your interest. Find people who are doing what you desire to do and ask them for an internship.
No formal education or training is a requirement to be a freelance photographer. One of the best ways to find out how to sell your work to publishers is to pick up a copy of the latest edition of Photographer's Market. Different publications will have different requirements, and this book can be invaluable if you want to become a published photographer. Take the time to develop a portfolio and be sure to only include your best work. If you take the time to specialize, you will become an expert in a field and will be more sought out than photographers who take photos of anything. Try to find a niche with little competition that you enjoy.
Perhaps the easiest way to get started is to sell your work to stock photo companies. You can find a list of them in the Photographer's Market or online. One advantage of this is that you don't have to work directly with customers. So if the thought of calling up prospects and getting rejected more times than you get accepted makes you hesitate at becoming a photographer, selling stock images might be the right way to go. With stock images, you keep the rights to your photos and are paid a percentage of the fee that customers pay to use that photo. You'll need to submit a large number of photos, but quality is still more important than quantity. Not all agencies are open to newcomers and not all photos will pay the same. Keep in mind that if you want to sell photos of people, you will need to get a model's release. Photography classes will help you improve the quality of your photo and take the time to train yourself on the law.
If you decide to go in business for yourself, you will need to train in more than how to take a good picture. Spend the resources necessary to develop your interpersonal communication skills. Take a few business classes so that you can run your business effectively. Selling your photographs directly to customers can be tough, but rewarding. Approach local businesses to see what their photography needs are. See if the tourist bureau needs a new brochure, or if gift shops need postcards of local attractions. In addition, you can set up a website to help attract clients. Find out the photograph needs of web designers and fulfill them.
If you have the skill and the dedication, you can become a photographer, even without any formal training. The first step is to decide what type of photographer you want to be, and then train yourself accordingly.
